Installing Docker

Steps that worked for me in installing latest Docker:
Command line steps issued from normal sudo-er user | Description |

> sudo dnf config-manager –add-repo=https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/docker-ce.repo | Install docker-ce repo |
> dnf list docker-ce –showduplicates | sort -r | List all available docker-ce |
> sudo dnf install https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/8/x86_64/stable/Packages/containerd.io-1.4.4-3.1.el8.x86_64.rpm | Install the latest containerd.io |
> sudo dnf install https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/8/x86_64/stable/Packages/docker-ce-20.10.5-3.el8.x86_64.rpm https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/8/x86_64/stable/Packages/docker-ce-cli-20.10.5-3.el8.x86_64.rpm https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/8/x86_64/stable/Packages/docker-ce-rootless-extras-20.10.5-3.el8.x86_64.rpm | Install all relevant packages |
> sudo systemctl enable –now docker | Enable and start the Docker service. The output confirms that we have created a symlink. |
> systemctl status docker | Confirm the Docker service is active |
> sudo usermod -aG docker $USER | Add your user to the docker group |
> id $USER | Verify that docker group is added |
> sudo systemctl disable firewalld | Disable firewalld for DNS resolution inside Docker containers to work. |
Reboot your system to make sure firewalld disabled | |
> docker pull alpine | Test docker by pulling a test container |
